Key West is not Northwest Florida

Key West is 501 miles (as the crow flies) from Fort Walton Beach, FL. They may have tar balls all the way down there but our beaches remain perfect! News outlets like to generalize the story by saying “Florida beaches have tar balls” but the pictures taken (see our Facebook page) today on Okaloosa Island tell a much different story. Weather and gulf current patterns continue to help keep the oil plume south of our area. The plume is expected to drift further west but move to the south over the next few days. Okaloosa Island is still a perfect vacation destination.

Okaloosa Island – Gulf Oil Update

Winds continue from the Southeast today keeping the oil plume well to the west of our area. Okaloosa Island beaches are still perfect showing no evidence of tar balls, oil, or smells. Fishing is still amazing and all of the water sports venders are open for business.

Okaloosa Island – Gulf Oil Update

As efforts continue to cap the oil spill left by the Deepwater Horizon tragedy, we continue to be blessed with favorable weather patterns which have kept the oil west and south of Okaloosa Island and the surrounding Emerald Coast waters and beaches. Okaloosa Island remains as pristine as always and continues to be enjoyed by locals and tourists every day. Don’t miss out on great deals and the vacation of a lifetime. Go ahead and make your reservation today. We’ll keep you updated on the condition of our area and how your vacation may be impacted. Call today for details.

Don’t Change Your Mind

By now, everyone is aware of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy and its potential impact to Northwest Florida. Weather patterns continue to be favorable for Okaloosa Island Beaches forcing the oil spill to remain south and west of our area.

We should all stay apprised of this situation but as of now our beaches remain as beautiful as they always have. Local residents, businesses, and tourists are becoming more and more optimistic the preventive measures taken by the government lead professionals and countless local volunteers will be successful.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available.
